Revelation

Chapter 1

1:1  The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his slaves the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his slave John,

1:2  who testified to the word of God and to the testimony about Jesus Christ— to all that he saw.

1:3  Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep the things written in it, for the time is near.

1:4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne,

1:5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood

1:6 and has made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1:7  Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will mourn on account of him. Even so. Amen.

1:8  “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

1:9  I, John, your brother and the one who shares with you in the persecution and the kingdom and endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet

1:11 saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”

1:12  Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,

1:13 and in the middle of the lampstands was one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and wrapped around the chest with a golden sash.

1:14 His head and hair were white like white wool, like snow; and his eyes were like a fiery flame.

1:15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.

1:16and having seven stars in his right hand and out of his mouth a sharp two-edged sword and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Do not fear, I Am the first and the last,

1:18 and the one who lives! I was dead, but behold, I am alive —forever and ever—and I hold the keys of death and of Hades!

1:19 Therefore write what you have seen, both the things that are and the things that are going to happen after these things.

1:20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the messengers of the seven churches and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Chapter 2

2:1 “To the messenger of the church in Ephesus write: ‘These things says he who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.

2:2  I know your works, and your toil and your endurance and how you cannot tolerate evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and they are not, and found them to be false;

2:3  and you have perseverance and endured for my name and have not grown weary.

2:4  But I have this against you: You have abandoned your first love.

2:5  Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

2:6  But this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

2:7  He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’

2:8   “And to the messenger of the church in Smyrna write: ‘These things says he who is the first and the last, who died and came to life.

2:9 I know your distress even your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander by those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

2:10 Do not fear for what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

2:11 He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be harmed by the second death.’

2:12 “And to the messenger of the church in Pergamum write: ‘These things says he who has the sharp two- edged sword.

2:13 “ ‘I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny your faith in me even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

2:14 But I have a few things against you, because you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching  Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.

2:15 So also you have some who hold fast to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

2:16 Therefore repent. If not, I will come quickly and war against them with the sword of my mouth.

2:17 He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’

2:18 ‘And to the messenger of the church in Thyatira write: ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a  flame of fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.

2:19 ‘I know your works: your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your last works are greater than the first.

2:20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and she teaches and deceives my slaves to commit sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

2:21 I have given her time to repent, but she is not willing to repent of her sexual immorality.

2:22 Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great suffering, unless they repent of her works,

2:23 and I will strike her children with a deadly disease. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your deeds.

2:24 ‘But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned the “deep things of Satan,” as they say—I place on you no other burden,

2:25 only what you have, hold fast until I come.

2:26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, I will give authority over the nations,

2:27 and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces,

2:28 just as I have received the right to rule from my Father —and I will give him the morning star.

2:29 He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

Chapter 3

3:1  “And to the messenger of the church in Sardis write: ‘These things says he who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

“ ‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.’ “

3:2  Be constantly alert, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.

3:3  Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; and keep [obey] it and repent. Then, if you do not come alert, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

3:4 But you have a few names [people] in Sardis, who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, because they are worthy.

3:5 The one who conquers will be clothed the same way in white garments, and I will never erase his name from the book of life and I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.

3:6 He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

3:7 “And to the messenger of the church in Philadelphia write: ‘These things says, he who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

3:8“ ‘I know your works—(Behold, I have given before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.) that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

3:9 Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews yet are not, but are lying— Behold, I will make them so that they come and bow down before your feet, and they will know that I have loved you.

3:10 Because you have kept the word of my perseverance, I will also keep you from the hour of trial which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

3:11 I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

3:12 The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God and he will never go out of it anymore; and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of   heaven from my God and my new name.

3:13 He who has an ear, had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

3:14 “And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea write:

‘These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness the originator of God’s creation.

3:15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot!

3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth.

3:17 Because you say, “I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing” but you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,

3:18 I am advising you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and buy white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and buy salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.

3:19 As many as I love, I reprove and discipline, so be earnest and repent.

3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and I am knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

3:21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

3:22 He who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

Chapter 4

4:1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven and the first voice, which I had heard speaking with me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.

4:2  Suddenly I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and someone was sitting on the throne.

4:3  And the one seated on it was like a jasper stone and carnelian and there was a rainbow around the throne that had the appearance of an emerald.

4:4  Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and upon the thrones were twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.

4:5  From the throne came flashes of lightning, and soundsandthunder, and there were seven burning torches of fire before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God.

4:6  and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal. In the center of the throne and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back:

4:7  the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature having the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle.

4:8  And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and inside [underneath], and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy,

is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!”

4:9  And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

4:10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before him who sits on the throne and they will worship him who lives forever and ever and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they existed and were created.”

Chapter 5

5:1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written on the front and back, sealed with seven seals.

5:2  And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice,

5:3  And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it,

5:4  and I began to weep much because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.

5:5  Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Behold, the Lion  of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

5:6  Then I saw between the throne and the four living creatures and the elders a Lamb standing, looking as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

5:7  Then he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne.

5:8  And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

5:9 And they were singing a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you purchased people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation.

5:10 And you have made them a kingdom and priests to   our God,

and they shall reign on the earth.”

5:11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and the living creatures and the elders. And their number was myriads of myriads, thousands of thousands,

5:12 singing with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!”

5:13  Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and power forever and   ever!”

5:14  And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Chapter 6

6:1  Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying like a voice of thunder, “Come!”

6:2  And I looked, and behold came a white horse and the one who rode upon it had a bow, and a crown was given to him and he rode out as a conqueror in order that he might conquer.

6:3  Then when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!”

6:4  And another horse came out, fiery red, and the one who rode upon it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that people would slaughter one another, and a great sword was given to him.

6:5  Then when he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a black horse and the one who rode upon it had a balance scale in his hand.

6:6  And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!”

6:7  When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come!”

6:8  And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And he who rode upon it, his name was Death, and Hades was following with him. And authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.

6:9  When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls [inner self] of those who had been slain because of the word of God and for the testimony they had maintained.

6:10 They cried out with a loud voice,  saying, “How long, O Lord [Master], holy and true, before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

6:11 Then they were each given a white robe and it was told to them rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow slaves and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they had been.

6:12 And I looked when he opened the  sixth seal and there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, the full moon became like blood,

6:13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree dropping its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.

6:14  The  sky split apart like a scroll being rolled up, and   every mountain and island was removed from its  place.

6:15  Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and every slave and free person, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains,

6:16  calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,

6:17  for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

Chapter 7

7:1  After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or on any tree.

7:2  Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun [east], who had the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the earth and the sea,

7:3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the slaves of our God on their foreheads.”

7:4  And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

7:5  From the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand,

7:6  from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand,

7:7  from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand,

7:8  from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand,

from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed.

7:9  After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes, peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

7:10 and they were shouting out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

7:11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

7:12  saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

7:13  Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “These who are clothed in white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?”

7:14  So I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are those coming out of the great tribulation and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

7:15  “For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them.

7:16 They will never go hungry nor be thirsty again,

nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any burning heat,

7:17 because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Chapter 8

8:1  And when he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

8:2  And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.

8:3  And another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

8:4  And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand.

8:5  And the angel took the censer, and filled it from the fire of the altar, and threw it on the earth: and there were sounds, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

8:6  And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets   prepared themselves to sound them.

8:7  The first angel blew his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was thrown on the earth and a third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

8:8  And the second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea and a third of the sea became blood,

8:9  and the third part of the creatures living in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

8:10 And third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters.

8:11 Now the name of the star is called Wormwood: and a third part of the waters became wormwood; and many people died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

8:12 And the fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them were darkened. The day did not shine light for a third of it and the night in the same way.

8:13 And I looked and I heard an eagle in mid-heaven proclaiming with a loud voice, “Woe! Woe! Woe to those who live on the earth because of the remaining sounds of the trumpets of the three angels who are about to blow them!”

Chapter 9

9:1  The fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to the earth; and the key to the shaft of the abyss was given to him.

9:2 He opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke ascended out of the shaft like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened from the smoke of the shaft.

9:3 Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

9:4 They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

9:5 And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a person.

9:6 And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death will flee from them!

9:7 The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like human faces.

9:8 They had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions.

9:9 They had breastplates like breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to battle.

9:10 They have tails like  scorpions, and stingers; and in their tails is their power to hurt people for five months.

9:11 They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.

9:12 The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still coming after these things.

9:13 The sixth angel blew his trumpet and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,

9:14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.”

9:15 And the four angels, who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind.

9:16 The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.

9:17 And this is how I saw in my vision the horses and those who sat on them: having breastplates, the colors of fiery red, hyacinth, sulphur and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and brimstone.

9:18 A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire, the smoke, and the brimstone which came out of their mouths.

9:19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads, and with them they inflict injury.

9:20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands so as not to worship demons and the idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk around;

9:21 and they did not repent of their murders, nor of their witchcraft, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.

Chapter 10

10:1  I saw another strong angel coming down from heaven, wrapped with a cloud; and the rainbow was on his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire;

10:2  and he had in his hand a little scroll, which was open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land;

10:3  and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and when he had cried out, the seven peals of thunder sounded their voices.

10:4  When the seven peals of thunders spoke, I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Seal the things which the seven thunders spoke, and do not write them.”

10:5  Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven,

10:6 and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that there will no longer be a delay,

10:7  but in the days of the sound of the seventh angel, when he will blow his trumpet, then the mystery of God will be completed, as he announced to his servants the prophets.

10:8  Then the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, “Go, take the scroll which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the land.”

10:9 And I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, “Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.”

10:10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.

10:11 And they said to me, “You must prophesy again concerning many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”

Chapter 11

11:1  And a reed like a rod was given to me, saying, “Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar, and those who worship in it.

11:2  “Leave out the courtyard which is outside the temple and do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles; and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months.

11:3  “And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”

11:4  These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.

11:5  And if anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and so if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this way.

11:6  These have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

11:7  When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.

11:8  And their dead bodies will lie on the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

11:9 And those from the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.

11:10 And those who live on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who live on the earth.

11:11 And after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered in them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them.

11:12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them.

11:13 And at that time there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

11:14 The second woe has passed; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

11:15 The seventh angel blew his trumpet and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ; and he will reign forever and ever.”

11:16 And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God,

11:17 saying,  “We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.

11:18 “And the nations were enraged, and your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

11:19 And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of his covenant appeared in his temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder, and an earthquake, and a great hailstorm.

Chapter 12

12:1  And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

12:2  and she was pregnant and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.

12:3  And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadem crowns.

12:4  His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and  threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it.

12:5  She gave birth to a son, a male child one who is to rule all the nations with an iron rod, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne,

12:6  and the woman fled into the wilderness where a place had been prepared by God, so that there, she could be nourished for 1,260 days.

12:7  And war broke out in heaven, Michael and his angels  fought with the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back,

12:8  but they did not prevail, and there was no longer any place found for them in heaven.

12:9  And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

12:10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

12:11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives even to the point of death.

12:12 Therefore, rejoice you heavens and those who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you having great wrath, knowing that he has a short time.

12:13 And when the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.

12:14 But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly into the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time away from the presence of the serpent.

12:15 Then the serpent gushed forth water from his mouth like a river after the woman to sweep her away by the torrent.

12:16 But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had gushed from his mouth.

12:17 Then the dragon was furious with the woman and went off to wage war with the rest of her offspring who were keeping the commandments of God and holding to the testimony of Jesus.

12:18 And he [the dragon]stood on the sand of the seashore.

Chapter 13

13:1  Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns were ten diadem crowns, and on its heads a blasphemous name.

13:2  And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave it his power and his throne,  and great authority.

13:3  And one of its heads appeared as slain to death but his mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled after [followed] the beast;

13:4  they worshiped the dragon because he had given  authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast,  saying: “Who is like the beast?” and “Who is able to wage  war against him?”

13:5  And the beast was given a mouth speaking great  [proud] things and blasphemies and authority was given to     him for forty-two months.

13:6  He  opened his  mouth to blaspheme   God, to blaspheme his name and his dwelling place and those who dwell in heaven.

13:7  And he  was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe,  people, language and nation,

13:8  and all who dwell on earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.

13:9  If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

13:10 “If anyone is meant to go into captivity, into captivity he will go.

If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he must be killed.

Here is the endurance and faith of the saints.

13:11 Then I saw another beast coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb but he spoke like a dragon.

13:12 He exercises all the authority of the first beast on his behalf and he makes the earth and those who inhabit it worship the first beast whose mortal wound was healed.

13:13 He performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people,

13:14 and, by the signs he was allowed to perform on behalf of the beast, he deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

13:15 And it was given to him to give breath [pneuma—life]to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast could speak and could cause all those who do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

13:16 He also caused everyone small and great, rich and poor, free and slave to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead.

13:17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of his name.

13:18 This is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of man and his number is 666.

Chapter 14

14:1  Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him were 144,000, who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

14:2  And I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. Now the voice I heard was like harpists playing on their harps,

14:3  and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

14:4 These are those who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb,

14:5 and in their mouth no lie was found; they are blameless.

14:6  Then I saw an angel flying in midheaven, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people,

14:7  saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship the one who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

14:8  Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.”

14:9  And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand,

14:10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, that has been mixed undiluted [full strength] in the cup of his wrath, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and before the Lamb.

14:11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, those who worship the beast and his image, and anyone who receives the mark of his name.”

14:12 Here is the endurance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

14:14  Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand.

14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Send out your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.”

14:16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle upon the earth, and the earth was reaped.

14:17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.

14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, the angel  who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud  voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Send in your  sickle and gather the clustersfrom the vine of the earth,   because its grapes are ripe.”

14:19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth and threw them into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

14:20 Then the winepress was trampled outside the city

and blood flowed out from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.

Chapter 15

15:1  Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, because in them the wrath of God is completed.

15:2  And I looked and I saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire and those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps given to them by God.

15:3  And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God,

and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,

    Lord God the Almighty!

Righteous and true are your ways,

    King of the nations!

15:4  Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name?

    For you alone are holy.

All nations will come and worship before you,

for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

15:5  After these things I looked, and the temple (the tent of the testimony) was opened in heaven,

15:6  and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, dressed in clean bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests.

15:7  Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever,

15:8  and the temple was filled with smoke from God’s glory and from his power. Thus no one could enter the temple until the seven plagues from the seven angels were completed.

Chapter 16

16:1  Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.”

16:2  So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth; and harmful and painful sores came upon the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.

16:3  The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of a corpse and every living thing which is in the sea died.

16:4  Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters; and they became blood.

16:5  Then I heard the angel of the waters saying, “Righteous are you, the One who is and who was, O Holy One, because you judged these things;

16:6  because they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve it.

16:7  Then I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are your judgments.”

16:8  And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given power to scorch people with fire.

16:9  And the people were scorched with intense heat and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power and the authority over all these plagues and they did not repent and give him glory.

16:10  Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain,

16:11 and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pain and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.

16:12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates; and its water was dried up, so that the way would be prepared for the kings from the East.

16:13  And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs;

16:14 for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the entire world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.

16:15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays alert and keeps his clothes on, so that he will not walk about naked and people will not see his shame.”)

16:16 And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon.

16:17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying, “It is done.”

16:18 And there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was a great earthquake, such as there had not been since people came to be upon the earth, such a great an earthquake and so large.

16:19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell and Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give her the cup of the wine of his fierce wrath.

16:20  And every island fled, and no mountains were found.

16:21 And huge hailstones, weighing about a talent each, came down from heaven upon people; and people blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because the hailstone plague was extremely severe.

Chapter 17

17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters,

17:2  with whom the kings of the earth committed acts of sexual immorality, and those who live on the earth became drunk with the wine of her sexual immorality.”

17:3  And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.

17:4  The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold, preciousstones, and pearls, holding in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her sexual immorality,

17:5  And on her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the Great, the Mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth.”

17:6 And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly amazed.

17:7  And the angel said to me, “Why are you amazed?”

I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

17:8  “The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who live on the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will be amazed when they see the beast, that he was, and is not, and will come [to be present].

17:9  “Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains upon which the woman sits. They are also seven kings;

17:10 and they are seven kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while.

17:11 “The beast which was, and is not, is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven, and he goes to destruction.

17:12  “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour.

17:13 “These have one intent, and they give their power and authority to the beast.

17:14 “These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are the called and chosen and faithful.”

17:15 And he said to me, “The waters which you saw where the prostitute sits are peoples and multitudes, and nations and languages.

17:16 “And the ten horns which you saw and the beast— these will hate the prostitute and will make her desolate and naked, and will consume her flesh and will burn her up with fire.

17:17 For God has put it in their hearts to do his intent by having one purpose, even to give their royal power to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled.

17:18 “The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

Chapter 18

18:1  After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory.

18:2 And he called out with a mighty voice,

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.

18:3 For all nations have fallen from

the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,

and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”

18:4   Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,

“Come out of her, my people,

so that you many not take part in her sins,

  so that you many not receive her plagues;

18:5   because her sins have touched to heaven

and God has remembered her crimes.

18:6   Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,

    and pay her back double according to her deeds;

in the cup she mixed, mix for her double.

18:7   As she glorified herself and lived in sensual luxury,

so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,

because in her heart she says, “I sit as a queen,

I am no widow and I shall never see mourning.”

18:8   For this reason, in one day, her plagues will come:death and mourning and famine,

and she will be consumed with fire, for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”

18:9  Then the kings of the earth, who committed sexual  immorality and lived in sensual luxury with her,

will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning,

18:10  having stood from far off because of the fear of her torment saying,

“Woe, woe, O great city,

Babylon the powerful city!

For in one hour your judgment has come.”

18:11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo anymore,

18:12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood,  bronze, iron and marble,

18:13  cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, four wheeled- wagons, and slaves, that is, human lives.

18:14  The fruit you greatly desired

has gone from you,

and all your luxuries and your splendors

have gone from you

they will never ever be found again!

18:15 The merchants of these things who became rich

from her, will stand a long way off in fear of her torment,

weeping and mourning,

18:16 saying, ‘Woe, woe, O great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls;

18:17 for in one hour such great wealth has been destroyed!’ And every ship captain and every passenger and sailor, and all who make their living by the sea, stood at a distance,

18:18 and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’

18:19 “And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich from her prosperity, for in one hour she has been destroyed.

18:20 “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.”

18:21 Then a powerful angel picked up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

“So with such violence Babylon the great city will be thrown down, and will never be found again.

18:22  “And the sound of harpists, musicians, flute players, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again; and no craftsman of any craft will ever be found in you again; and the sound of a mill will never be heard in you again;

18:23 and the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of the groom and bride will never be heard in you again; for your merchants were the powerful people of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft.

18:24 “And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”

19:1  After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,

  “Hallelujah!

Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

19:2  for his judgments are true and just;

for he has judged the great prostitute

who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality,

and has avenged the blood of his servants poured out     by her own hands!”

19:3  And again, they cried out,

  “Hallelujah!

The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”

19:4  And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated     on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!”

19:5  Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,

all you his servants,

you who fear him,

small and great.”

19:6  Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,

“Hallelujah!

  For the Lord our God

  the Almighty reigns.

19:7  Let us rejoice and be glad

 and give him glory

because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has  come,

and his bride has made herself ready.

19:8  It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright    and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

19:9  Then he said to me, “Write the following: Blessed are those who are called to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!” He also said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

19:10 Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and he who was riding on it was calledFaithful and True, and in justice he judges and wages war.

19:12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadem crowns; and he has a name writtenthat no one knows except himself.

19:13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and his name is called the Word of God.

19:14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following him on white horses.

19:15 And from his mouth comes out a sharp sword so that with it he may strike down the nations, and “he himself will rule them with a rod of iron;” and he himself tramples the wine press of the furious wrath of God, the Almighty.

19:16 And on his robe and on his thigh he has a name written: “King of kings and Lord of lords.”

19:17 Then I saw a single angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the sky, “Come, gather together for the  great supper  of God,

19:18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of generals, the flesh of powerful people, and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, both free and slaves, and small and great.”

19:19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against him who sat on the horse, and against his army.

19:20 Now the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulphur.

19:21 And the rest were killed by the sword that came out from the mouth of the one who rode the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh.

Chapter 20

20:1  Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding thekey of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

20:2 He  seized the dragon, that ancient  serpent, who is the devil, or  Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

20:3 and he threw him into the abyss and locked it and sealed it so that he could not deceive the nations until the one thousand years were finished; after these things he must be released for a short time.

20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I also saw the souls (psuche) of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

20:5  (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed.) This is the first resurrection.

20:6  Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; the second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with him for a thousand years.

20:7  When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,

20:8 and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.

20:9 And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled, and no place was found for them.

20:12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.

20:13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them; and they were judged, each one of them according to their deeds.

20:14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

20:15  And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Chapter 21

21:1  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea existed no more.

21:2  And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold! The dwelling place of God is among men. He will dwell among them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be among them.

21:4  and he will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death will not exist any more; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; for the former things have ceased to exist.”

21:5  And he who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And he said, “Write it down because these words are faithful and true.”

21:6  Then he said to me, “They are done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water free of charge from the spring of the water of life.

21:7  “The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

21:8  “But for the cowardly, and unfaithful, and detestable persons, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and those who practice magical arts, and idolaters, and to all those who lie, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

21:9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls, full of the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

21:11 having the glory of God, its brilliance was like a precious jewel like a stone of crystal-clear jasper.

21:12 It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on the gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.

21:13  There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.

21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

21:15  The one who spoke with me had a golden measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

21:16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is the same as the width; he measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia; its length and width and height are equal.

21:17 And he measured its border edge, 144 cubits, by human measurements, which is also the angel’s.

21:18  The material of the wall was jasper; and the city was pure gold, like a transparent glass.

21:19 The foundation stones of the city wall were set in order with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald;

21:20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.

21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

21:22 I saw no temple in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

21:24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,

21:25  and its gates will never be closed during the day (for there will be no night there);

21:26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;

21:27 and nothing unclean, and no one who does what is detestable and falsehood will ever enter into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Chapter 22

22:1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing out from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

22:2 through the middle of its street. Also on each side of the river was a tree of life producing twelve kinds of fruit yielding its fruit every month and its leaves are for the healing of the nations.

22:3  And there will no longer be any division; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his slaves will worship him.

22:4  And they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

22:5  And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them; and they will reign forever and ever.

22:6  Then he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his slaves what must happen soon.”

22:7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

22:8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things.

22:9 But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”

22:10 Then he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.

22:11 “Let the one who does wrong still do wrong, and the the one who is filthy still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous still practice righteousness, and the one who is holy still keep himself holy.”

22:12 Behold! I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to pay each one according to what he has done!

22:13  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

22:14  Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life, and may enter the city by the gates.

22:15  Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral persons, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star!”

22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say: “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wants it take the water of life without cost.

22:18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;

22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

22:20 The one who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

22:21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.
